Thoughts to Ponder
Creation vs. Intelligent Design vs. Evolution
No matter where one turns these days, the media, secular culture and educational institutions bombard us with the “theory” and “evidence” and “logic” of evolution. Christians are often accused of being naïve, even foolish, sometimes even ridiculed that they “check their minds at the door of the church” when they confess belief in the seven day creation account as God reveals it in His Book of Genesis.
In Hebrews 11:3 the author, carried along by the Holy Spirit writes: “By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.” And, Paul reminds us in his first letter to the church in Corinth: “For the foolishness of God is wiser than man’s wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than man’s strength.” It seems, then, that the question of creation vs. evolution really boils down to a question of faith, not a question of fact; a question of the “foolishness” of God vs. the “wisdom” of man.
Did God really create the world as He tells us in His Word? Or did He maybe “guide” evolution as so many Christians and supporters of “Intelligent Design” have begun to accept in their struggle to rationalize the “foolishness” of God with the “wisdom” of man? And, to be honest, does it really matter to our salvation? After all, as long as we believe that Jesus died for our sins and rose again, isn’t that enough?
Rev. Dr. Louis Brighton, professor emeritus at Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, Mo. in one of his classes at seminary raised a good question: “If you cannot believe God when He says He created the world in seven days, how can you believe Him when He says He sent His Son to save you?”
Certainly a thought to ponder……..Pastor Schmidt
